Republic Day is celebrated with much enthusiasm athwart the country and mainly in the capital New Delhi where the celebrations begin with the president to the nation. This day is celebrated in January 26. And this day is declared a national holiday.

The beginning of the event is always a sober reminder of the sacrifices of the martyrs who died for the country in the freedom movement and the following wars in defense of the autonomy of their country.

This year have the Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono as the Chief Guest. Usually the chief guests are invited from countries with whom India favour special relationship.
